There’s no doubt that teachers have made an impact on more lives than we can fathom, so when the United Nations started World Teachers’ Day, there was no lack of support. World Teachers’ Day is recognized on October 5 in more than 100 countries, and acknowledges teachers for the efforts they make in an increasingly complex, multicultural and technological society. It is a day on which students, parents and community members can demonstrate their appreciation for the contributions that teachers have made to their community by providing quality education at all levels.
Maybe your children attend a brick and mortar school, and student-teacher interaction is a daily activity. Maybe your children attend an online public school, and student-teacher interaction is not as frequent, but more individualized to the student’s needs. Either way, this is a great time to acknowledge the impact teachers make in our lives, and the lives of others.
Join us in celebrating World Teachers’ Day by honoring them through a range of activities. Here a few of our favorites:
Creating a flower pot as a thank you gift is such a neat idea because it reflects the growing we all do with the help of our teachers. All you need to do is paint a pot with black chalkboard paint and yellow paint; add some ruler markings; and write a sweet message using chalk. Fill the pot with flowers from the grocery store, and voila!

Teachers pour their hearts and souls into children, so this is a great time for your kids to do the same. Have them write a letter, or draw a picture for their teacher expressing how grateful they are for all that they do. This is a great option for those of you who have virtual teachers because you can send your appreciation through an email!

Here’s a collection of videos submitted in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week 2014 from online curriculum provider, K12. They asked for students to share their thanks with video messages via Instagram, and you can do the same for World Teachers’ Day. Take this opportunity to thank your teacher and all of the teachers around the world.
